Tjukanovt GitHub IO: explore places through the people born there

Find Topi Tjukanov’s Notable people map when the root URL returns 404. See real screenshots, try category filters and compare people with place names.

Reviewed · Root URL: 404 · Direct map: working · Free public browsing

A place can become more memorable when you connect it with a person. The tjukanovt github io search leads to Topi Tjukanov’s shared mapping projects, including Notable people: an interactive map of selected birthplaces. The root address returned 404 during our check, but the direct map worked. NavSprout points you to that working route and suggests a small discovery task instead of leaving you at a missing homepage.

Inside Tjukanovt GitHub IO’s Notable people map

Notable people map with Discovery and Science selected and person labels across Europe and North Africa
Actual browser capture, October 20, 2026: Discovery & Science selected after zooming toward Europe and North Africa. Labels are a dataset-based selection, not a complete population of notable people.

Why it’s here

This is a map to explore with a question: which names do I recognize in a region, and which ones would I like to learn about? It turns browsing a globe into a starting point for curiosity. The useful outcome is not a final ranking of human achievement. It is a place, a name and a question you can investigate through other sources.

Use the direct Notable people link

Open /notable-people.html rather than relying on the root homepage. In our session the globe loaded, then names became visible as the scene and labels finished rendering. We zoomed toward Europe and North Africa and saw a denser field of labels. Give the map time to load before deciding that the people layer is missing.

Try one category, then compare the geography

We selected Discovery & Science and observed the selected radio state and people labels, including names around Europe and the Mediterranean. Then Show real place names replaced the people labels with geographic names. This gives you a useful comparison: connect the unfamiliar name you noticed with the actual area rather than guessing from its position on a globe.

A short discovery exercise

Choose one region and one category. Note a person you did not expect to see there, switch to real place names to orient yourself and write one question about that person’s connection to the place. Use a biographical source to verify the answer. This is a suggested learning exercise; we did not independently fact-check the biographies behind every map label.

What a displayed name means

The map describes a selection of birthplaces using a notability rank and one person for each unique location. That design makes the map readable, but it also means many people are omitted. A missing name does not mean a person has no connection to the area. A displayed name is not a claim about current residence, citizenship or the most valuable contribution to a community.

Follow the author, not a fictional product dashboard

The GitHub profile belongs to Topi Tjukanov. Its website repository contains several GIS experiments and map files; it is not a conventional dashboard for one subscription app. The author profile and repository are useful next links if you want to understand where this map sits among the projects. We tested Notable people, not every other item in the repository.

Keep an exploration map in its proper role

The tested map was available without a payment or sign-in. Use it for curiosity, map-design inspiration or the start of a research question. Do not substitute a notability visualization for a complete historical directory. Source choices, filtering and what fits on the screen all shape what you see.

How to explore a region

  1. Open the direct Notable people map.
  2. Zoom to one region and wait for labels to load.
  3. Choose Discovery & Science or another visible category.
  4. Select Show real place names to orient yourself.
  5. Verify one interesting biographical connection through a separate source.

Who it suits

Curious map readers, geography learners and people looking for a short discovery activity.

What our check establishes

Checked October 20, 2026: root 404, working map rendering, zooming, Discovery & Science selection and real-place-name mode. Individual biographies, every category, downloads and mobile behavior were not fully tested.

Tjukanovt GitHub IO FAQ

What is tjukanovt GitHub IO?

It is the GitHub Pages space associated with Topi Tjukanov’s mapping experiments. The root address and the live project pages should be distinguished; Notable people works at its direct HTML route.

Why does the root website show 404?

The root returned GitHub Pages File not found on October 20, 2026. The inspected repository inventory did not show a root index.html. We did not change the site or confirm its hosting configuration.

Where can I open the Notable people map?

Use https://tjukanovt.github.io/notable-people.html. We observed a rendered globe and labels at this direct address despite the missing root homepage.

Who created the map?

The map credits Topi Tjukanov. The supplied GitHub profile is https://github.com/tjukanovt, which links to the public tjukanovt.github.io repository.

Which filters are available?

The visible controls are All, Culture, Discovery & Science, Leadership, Sports & Games and Show real place names. We tested Discovery & Science and the real-place-name view.

What does Show real place names do?

In our test it changed the displayed labels from people’s names to geographic names, helping identify the underlying places in the same map view.

Does it show every notable person from a place?

No. The map explains that it selects one person per unique location using a notability rank. Missing names and selected labels should not be treated as a complete history or a ranking of human worth.

Is it free to browse?

The tested public map required no payment or account on October 20, 2026. Reuse of data, map styles or code is a separate licensing question.

What is a good first activity?

Choose a region, switch a category, compare with real place names and write one question about an unfamiliar person. Check a biographical source before drawing conclusions.

Author, source and verification

Reviewed October 20, 2026. The root 404, rendered map, zoom, Discovery & Science selection and real-place-name view were observed directly. The author profile, repository inventory and relevant HTML were inspected. We did not audit the research dataset or verify individual biographies. Screenshots are actual browser captures, compressed to WebP.
